For those not familiar with internet dating, we want to introduce you to some of the terms used on the site.
Please Remember: The central element of a dating site is the Profile. You’ll want to fill out a Profile to introduce yourself to other community members. You will also perform a Search. The Search includes information about the type of relationship that you are seeking, and the characteristics and interests of the person you seek. The computer will return Profiles of other members and subscribers that meet your Search criteria. You will read a list of people’s Profiles, and select the members that you would like to get to know.
Includes your username, E-mail address, and password. It is the first step toward joining the FiftyPlusConnect community.
Consists of your username and password. Once you’ve signed up, it is not necessary to sign up again. You simply log on.
Signifies that you are ready to leave the site. Logging off prevents other people from using the site with your username and password. Users log off for security reasons, especially when visiting the site in a public place.
A Member is a user who has signed up and created a Profile. When other users perform searches, a member's Profile may be returned if it matches the search criteria.
A Subscriber receives all the benefits of Membership, plus they have the ability to initiate and respond to e-mails. In addition, subscribers can join Chat Rooms.
Members and subscribers fill out a Profile, which is displayed on the site for viewing. Profiles contain information about people who belong to the FiftyPlusConnect community. Profiles are viewed by clicking on the photo or username of the person who has caught your eye.
A Search specifies the qualities you are seeking, as well as the type of relationship you want. Fill out a Search Form, and the site will return profiles for your evaluation. On FiftyPlusConnect.com you can perform a variety of searches. For example, if you travel to Los Angeles for business or pleasure, you might want to create a Los Angeles search. You might want to find a travel companion, or someone in your city to accompany you to the opera.
You may see a Profile you find attractive and want to know if that subscriber/member is interested in getting to know you. Click on Interested? The Interested? message will be available for viewing on the subscriber's/member's Home Page. If that subscriber/member is interested in responding, you'll get notice of a response on your Home Page. This is an efficient, noncommittal way of learning if someone you find interesting might be interested in getting to know you.
E-mail someone who interests you. Only subscribers can send and respond to E-mail. The FiftyPlusConnect.com¹s E-mail system is internal to provide anonymity for all its users.
A list of profiles that you find appealing and want to return to at a later date.
Provide a space in which subscribers can communicate in real time. Several subscribers can participate in a Chat Room at once. The site offers a General Chat Room, open to all subscribers, who can chat on any topic. We also offer a Chat Room specifically for widows and widowers. FiftyPlusConnect.com believes that those who have lost their mates would benefit by communicating with others who have had similar losses.
Contains information about your activities on the site. View and/or edit your Profile. Learn how much E-mail you’ve received. Check your most recent Search. These are a few of the features available on My Home Page.
Contains information about the status of your account, as well as a way to change your status. Also, this page gives you the opportunity to let us know what communications you’d like to receive from the site, as well as providing you the chance to hide your Profile.
